I've done quite a bit of studio work, but this was a new experience for me. Kim doesn't use artificial lighting at all in his photography, so he built his studio with a giant skylight. That allows him to shoot indoors while still using natural light.
The control you have with traditional studio lighting is something I really like, but I also like getting outside of my comfort zone, and this was definitely outside of my comfort zone. I was shooting at midday and the only source of light was the sun, which was almost directly overhead… a challenging lighting situation. Still, I really liked a lot of the shots we got.
